About Figureshed
A small set of free calculators for engine builders, racers and anyone curious about how engine numbers fit together.
Figureshed gathers common engine calculations in one place, with a clear input screen for each tool and the formula shown beside the answer.
Who runs this site
Figureshed is an independent project run by one person, alongside other work.
What you will find here
- An engine displacement calculator for swept volume and bore to stroke ratio.
- A quarter mile calculator that estimates ET and trap speed from weight and power.
- A horsepower calculator for torque, rpm, wheel and crank figures.
- A compression ratio calculator for static compression.
- A piston speed calculator for mean and peak piston speed.
How the results are made
Every calculator keeps its formulas in small, tested functions rather than mixing maths into the page. The example numbers shown on each tool page are checked by an automated test, so the published examples and the live calculator cannot drift apart without a test failing.
Where a tool relies on a recognised rule of thumb instead of a physical law, the page says so plainly. The quarter mile calculator, for example, shows two widely used formulas so you can see the spread rather than a single answer dressed up as certainty.
Honest about estimates
These tools model the numbers, not the whole machine. Air conditions, fuel, traction, gearing and build quality all influence real results. Nothing here is a recommendation about what your engine should run, and nothing on this site is professional engineering advice. Confirm important decisions with a qualified engine builder.
